'In tribute to our Merchant Seamen, and with the kind persmission of the Department of Transport, Ottawa, we reproduce the above Badge recently authorized by Order-in Council. This Badge is given only to the personnel of Canadian Ships who have served not less than three months on waters where enemy craft operate, or less than three months on a ship which has been attacked by the enemy. Each Badge is numbered and a certificate bearing the same number must be carried by the wearer.' So goes the blurb on the back page. This was one of many similiar books published by GUTTA PERCHA & RUBBER, LIMITED (1942). This book has sixteen pages of colour pictures showing the colourful Badges of the Canadian Ships. It was a patriotic inspired publication to educate the citizens of Canada and their allies in the Second World War. It is 6" X 9-1/2" and has stiff paper covers. Other booklets feature the rank insignia of the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Air Force, and the Royal Canadian Navy as well as medal and decorations members of the Canadian Armed Services might be awarded.
