This book deserves five stars not four. There is no other book like it on the subject in the world. The book is written by Horace Greeley VI (Does this name ring a bell?)and is impeccablely researched by WW2 OSS Veteran and retired College Professor John D. Brunner. The research and information presented is incredible. As to Mr. Taylor's review, well the responses from the surveyed WW2 Generals short responses are anything but cold. The book contains a real human interest aspect in these responses. It fleshes out why we collect cold inate pieces of metal in the first place! If one thinks of a General Officer's Pistol, the reason I had interest was that tangible historical connection to the men who lead and commanded other soldiers in WW2. The pistols covered here are the Colt M1903 and M1908 Pocket Hammerless, Colt M1911A1, Colt .25 Pocket Auto, M-15 Rock Island Custom General Officers, and the M9 Barretta 9MM Pistol. There are also some others mentioned such as the M39 Smith and Wesson Air Force issued pistol, and Rock Island General Officer Candidate Pistols. The layout of the book and pictures contained within are excellent. I also highly recommend all of John D. Brunner's books, such as OSS Weapons, etc. When the survey for this book was taken in 1989 the youngest General OFficer was in their 80's; how many could be alive today? There is but one WW1 Veteran left at the time of this post. How many U.S. General Officers are left from WW2 than lead the men of the Greatest Generation? This book tells a very small and personal part ot their story!
