I enjoyed this book very much. Capt Summitt was present at some remarkable events (fire on the Sargo; renvezous at Pole with Skate; rescueing a Navy blimp and later, rescueing the crew of a downed P5M Marlin). Its nice to finally see a nuclear sub book written by an Officer. The writing style is that of telling sea stories to a buddy over a beer.
The only qualms I have with the book are very small details: Almost no dates are given for events, so the casual reader doesn't know if something happened in 1955 or 1962. Also, few names of other ships were given. It would have been nice to know the name of the sub tender he docked at; the name of the carrier that he was escorting, etc. Another odd little detail: he first mentions his wife and child halfway through the book. I kept thinking "when did he have time to date and marry a woman?" But, as I said, these are minor issues. Otherwise, a fine read.
