Navy nurse Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I have read everything I can find about the Navy Nurse Corps in WWII. I was fortunate enough to have a veteran friend who shared her copy of this book with me. An easy read, it covers all areas of the globe where the NNC served, and is written in 3rd person "story style", almost like a novel, rather than simply quoting facts and history. Lots of details come out in this book- like the nurses at New Guinea having to wear men's Army khakis because of the mud, and the lack of "field gear" issued to the Navy nurses. Heart-touching stories abound in this book- of patients and experiences by the nurses, leaving the reader a bit tearful, and certainly more understanding of what these women went through. Not too much has been written on the Navy Nurse Corps, as they were the smaller of the two branches, with the Army nurses being twice the numbers. However, these women deserve as much respect for their sacrifice and devotion to duty as the Army nurses. It's high time the public knew more about these courageous women.
