(More customer reviews)David Lyon's "The Sailing Navy List" undertook to describe every vessel that flew the Royal Navy flag during the Age of Sail, giving technical details of design, brief summaries of service and -- in many cases --- plans for the ships. Lyon died in 2000 but Rif Winfield has carried on his work to complete a companion volume that covers all Royal Navy vessels from the conclusion of the Napoleonic Wars to nearly the end of the nineteenth century, the critical era when ships were changing from sail to steam and from wood to steel, presenting the same level of information as found in "The Sailing Navy List" for earlier vessels. This present volume is a superb continuation of the prior work and an invaluable resource for the naval enthusiast.
